Early Action Means Early Rewards for James Helsingius '23

“Johnson and Wales just called out to me,” said James Helsingius '23. He knew JWU was the right place for him from the moment he set foot on campus — even before beginning his first year at the Providence Campus this fall. During his junior year of high school, a passion for culinary arts brought him to Career Explorations, and the experience cemented his decision to take advantage of the Early Action Admission program.

Food Leaders Convene at JWU Denver for Slow Food Nations Summit

8/1/18 | Food movement leaders from across the US, Canada and beyond convened at JWU’s Denver Campus for Slow Food Nations’ Slow Food Leader Summit in early July.

Agenda topics ranged from the ethics of meat eating to initiatives to support equity in the food chain and to ensure that farmers’ voices are heard.

Bringing the Ocean State to Your Plate

7/26/16 | Last week, some of Rhode Island’s finest chefs convened at food-business incubator Hope & Main in Warren, RI, to explore ways to better utilize plentiful but less popular seafood species.

The 9 chefs — including JWU alumni Derek Wagner '99 (Nicks on Broadway), Matt Varga '05 (Gracie’s), Ben Mayhew '10 (front-of-house at Garde de la Mer) and Aaron Thorpe '01 (Cook & Dagger) — were given an hour and a half to sample, cook and experiment with new or relatively unfamiliar seafood.
