Johnson & Wales University again recognized by US President’s Honor Roll for Community Service | Only Rhode Island university to be honored “with distinction.”

Johnson & Wales University (JWU) has been selected for the 2014 President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll for exemplary service to America’s communities.

JWU’s Providence, North Miami, Denver and Charlotte campuses were honored in the “General Community Service” category. In addition, the Providence and North Miami Campuses were recognized in the “Education Community Service” category.

Providence Campus Honored “With Distinction”
The Providence Campus is the only university in Rhode Island to be admitted to the 2014 Honor Roll “With Distinction” by the Corporation for National and Community Service.

This is the third time the Providence Campus has received the honor “with distinction” (2007, 2010). The JWU Providence Campus also was included on the President’s Higher Education Honor Roll in 2006, 2008, 2009, 2011, 2012, and 2013, and has been recognized by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching for its work in the community (2008).

The “With Distinction” recognition is given to schools that display strong levels of institutional commitment, demonstrate a compelling case for partnerships that produce measurable impact in the community, and have a Federal Work-Study community service percentage of 15% or above.

For the 2012-2013 academic year, JWU Providence Campus students completed over 155,000 hours of community service. JWU campuses in North Miami, Fla.; Denver, Colo.; and Charlotte, NC also were named to the Community Service Honor Roll.

About the President’s Community Service Honor Roll
Launched in 2006, the Community Service Honor Roll is the highest federal recognition a school can achieve for its commitment to service-learning and civic engagement.

Earlier this year, JWU was honored with the William M. Burke Presidential Award for Excellence in Experiential Education, presented by the National Society for Experiential Education (NSEE).
