What a weekend it has been! This past weekend 7 of us traveled to the beautiful city of London for our long weekend. The great thing about being in Europe is that we can catch a cheap flight on Ryan air and be in a different country in about an hour. We began our adventure by trying to figure out how to get the the Gothenburg City airport and ended with us walking around London at 2 am trying to find our bus to the airport, but everything in between was well worth it!

We decided to rent an apartment for 4 nights in order to fit all 7 of us at an affordable price. It was a little out of the way and we had to go through the ghetto to get there, but it was an adventure and we can laugh about it now. The first day was for us just to get acquainted with the city. We went to Buckingham Palace and walked all around, leading us to Trafalgar Square. This was the perfect day for the long walk. All of us had gotten so used to the freezing temperatures in Sweden, that we welcomed the sun. Then we continued onto to Baker Street which is famous for the detective Sherlock Holmes. We even visited the house of Sherlock Holmes! Of course after we were starving so we made our way to Holmes Fish and Chips for our first traditional London meal. After walking around Baker Street for a bit we came across the Madame Tussaud’s Wax Museum. None of us had been before so we felt it was necessary to go in.

On our second day in London, we all woke up early and booked it to the Palace in order to watch the crossing of the guards. We stood packed like sardines with hundreds of other tourists as we watched the sharply dressed guards much up and down to the royal band. By instinct we muttered under our breaths ” The British are coming, the British are coming!” After the show we moved on to the London Eye, Big Ben and the Parliament house, and Westminster Church. Personally, I am glad I rode the London Eye, but I would never do it again. The views were gorgeous but being so high on a windy day above water freaked me out.

On our last day, we split up into groups so we could do what we all wanted. Nicki and Kourtney went and saw Platform 9 3/4 at Kings Cross from Harry Potter. I went with Kayla and Bryanna to Oxford Street which is famous for shopping, my favorite thing! Later that day, we also went to the London Dungeons. This had to be my favorite part of the whole trip because I love scary things and history. It was a hassle to wait in line for about 2 hours, but we had met a nice young couple from outside London who shared stories with us. Once we got through the line, it tour started. Its sort of like a museum but interactive with actors that include you. We learned about the bad things that happened in London like Jack the Ripper, Henry VIII, Sweeney Todd, and Guy Fawkes. I even got locked up for being a “traitor” and helping Guy Fawkes with blowing up the Parliament building.

Over all this trip was fantastic! We accomplished so much in such little time and we will always remember it. London is definitely a place to visit if you are in Europe.
