On Wednesday, May 7, 2014, our class went on our last day trip to Ischia Island, the biggest Island in Napoli Region. Unlike all the past day trips where we always only use buses as our transportation, we utilized both bus and ferry to take us to that island. We were lucky that we finally didn’t miss any one of transportation and the whole journey went out smoothly. The whole way to get there was pretty tight and tiring, but after we finished our trip there, I think all the efforts we paid to catch all the transportations worth it.
The main destination we visited in Ischia was Terme Manzi Hotel & Spa. In its restaurant we also tasted and enjoyed our most valuable meal with three months. We arrived at the hotel just in time, which was the appointed time, ten o’clock in the morning. Our class was divided into two groups, which were leading and giving tours separately by two of their staffs from sales and marketing department. The tour for our group only last for one hour while it for the other group last about one hour and forty minutes. Even though we were showed the video of the executive chef at the end, I think our group still missed something compared to another.
According to the lady who gave a tour to our group, Terme means spring water and Manzi was the original founder of this hotel dates back to 1865. After hundreds years development and variation, the hotel was purchased by Bolito Family in 2000 and finally reopened 2006. Similar as all the other five star luxury hotels, this hotel also have a range of different room types, whose rate ranges to several hundreds Euro as well. She showed us their restaurants, kitchen, four types of room, and their spa area. The superior room is their most basic type, while deluxe room has and extras balcony and bigger restroom. They only have two junior suites and one suites currently, which are all decorated into Mediterranean style and are able to accommodate families with two children, and they are planning on transfer more rooms into suites due to their high demands.
Actually, Terme Manzi Hotel & Spa has very unique technics that differentiate them from other same level competitors. We can see that Terme Manzi Hotel & Spa is not located close to the beach. It definitely doesn’t have such fancy views as those two hotels that we visited before in Positano and Ravello, nor does it have such professional and knowledgable marketing personnels and superior services as Hotel Relais & Chateaux. In that way, what makes Terme Manzi Hotel & Spa outstanding and how can it differentiate its products and services from other competitors? How would they attract customers to their hotel rather than going to other luxury hotels in other locations with more attractive views and more professional services? They have two basic secrets. One is their natural hot spring water alone with its complete spa service system. The other is their creative and fantasy two start Michelin restaurant. This hotel is famous for its spa and restaurant locally and internationally.
Ischia Island is famous for its natural hot spring water and the medical effects that the water provides. Terme Manzi Hotel & Spa is most well-known for its spa services. It has elevator located in the middle of each floor, which are able to take customers to their spas on its top floor and on its first floor directly without passing through the hotel lobby. In this way, guests can wear their bathrobes and feel comfortable with their bath experiences. There is a outdoor bath on the top floor, whose water is a mix of Terme water and mineral water.
According to the lady, natural spring water is not good for children under twelve and pregnant women. This bath makes it possible for all people to experience their specialty, bath and spa, which is very considerable as far as customer service perspective. Of course, there are all types of spa and treatment rooms designed for all various types of services in its special spa area. Hotel guests and non-hotel customers have different entrance to this area. Professional spa assistants are waiting there to provide extraordinary services. No wonder why this hotel has one of the most spa in Ischia Island.
Terme Manzi Hotel & Spa processes a genius executive chef, who created many interesting desserts, and established three chef table for their guests. According to the video that he showed us, his desserts are created based on different features of Napoli Region, including its most famous leader, musician, and even some plastic bag shapes. All of them were very impressive. Guests and customers are blue to watch how their food is prepared while sitting around the chef tables. Barely no other restaurant in this area has this special service.
Thanks to the hard work of this talent executive chef and his colleagues, this restaurant acquired two stars Michelin title. We also had a pleasant lunch in the restaurant, which counted for one of the most expensive meals in my entire life. We can see from the picture, every dish is just like an art piece. They are not only tasty, but also very colorful and pretty. I enjoyed the meal a lot!
In this case, all the well prepared main courses and deserts are core products. The chefs that prepare the food and the elegant plates and silverwares are facilitating products. The different shapes of its desserts and great fame of its Michelin title are supportive products which makes this restaurant differentiate from other restaurants. Finally, the great atmosphere and outstanding communication skills of servers consist of the augmented products.
After lunch, I walked around the town, looked for craft shops and did window shopping for a little while with Tierney and Shannon. Finally we went back to Vesuvian Institute firstly by ferry, then by the bus. It was a enjoyable, relaxing, and meaningful day for me.
