Summer Camp in Winter

As part of the curriculum for our outdoor recreation planning course, we hosted a 4-day camp for 6th graders from Mimosa Primary School, which is located in Bonteheuwel, a high poverty area on the outskirts of Cape Town.

As part of our study abroad, we sponsor these students to participate in the camp with us. During the camp the 6th graders learn about teamwork and leadership.

Learning, Living + Ballroom Dancing in Khayelitsha Township

Just outside of Cape Town is the township of Khayelitsha. We were given a tour of the township by a woman named Elise Elsing.

Elise has her own nonprofit organization that helps raise money to build new schools, daycares and buildings in the township of Khayelitsha.

We stopped by some of the buildings that she has built and it was truly inspirational the impact that she has made on the community. Here are a few photos of Khayelitsha and the different daycares we stopped by.

One of the New 7 Wonders of Nature

You can't visit Cape Town without going to Table Mountain. Table Mountain is one of the new 7 Wonders of Nature. It is called Table Mountain because it is literally flat on top and when the clouds are hovering over it, it looks like a table cloth covering the mountain. Being able to take-in the beauty of one of the 7 wonders of nature is another once in a life time experience. We took a cable car up to the top of the mountain. The floor of the cable car slowly spins so everyone inside can have a good view.
