JWU Student Blogs

Here at Johnson & Wales North Miami basketball season is about to kick off! We have both a men’s and women’s team. You can visit the www.jwu.edu to view this year’s season schedule. GO WILDCATS!!!

On my way to class. Here at JWU North Miami we have a business dress code. I love it. It makes figuring out what to wear very simple, and upon graduating I don’t have to worry about my work force wardrobe. GO WILDCATS!

I am a Travel-tourism and hospitality management major. I absolutely love Johnson & Wales North Miami Campus’ Hospitality College! Its’ small classroom sizes and hands-on approach makes learning a breeze. Some of my courses this trimester include Customer/ Guest Service, Human Resources, and Hospitality Technology. Feel free to ask me any questions about my classes :)

Intern at the place 'Where Dreams Come True'!

If you’re a ‘disnerd’ like me you’ve probably always dreamed of working for the Walt Disney Company, well now is your chance! Chef Pauli, a recruiter for the Disney Culinary Program will be visiting our Providence campus in October to hold interviews for the program and information sessions. You can come to any of the sessions to get any information (I went to the presentation the fall of my freshman year just to see something Disney related so you’re never too early!) Chef Pauli right now is looking for culinary/pastry interns for the Winter/Spring trimesters. Your internship term could be either a Winter or Spring Independent Internship. Apply online and if you get through to the interview Chef Pauli will be doing interviews on campus.

It's been three weeks already?!

Time flies by when you’re in academics, I can’t believe the school year has gone by so quickly. The first lab segment is already done and everyone’s moved onto the second. Has it felt this quick for anyone else? I guess when you do the stuff you love it doesn’t feel like school and it just goes by.

Johnson & Wales Admissions is revamping our current online newsletter, and we need your help in deciding what features we should add. You can help by answering these two questions:

One of the nice outings you can do in Providence is Waterfire. When it gets dark a bunch of pods are filled with burning wood and there is music, food, entertainment and it’s just a nice night out. My friends and I just went, spent no money, and just walked and sat around the fire and talked instead of doing it on the couch. It’s a perfect start to fall in New England! Definitely bring a sweatshirt though!

Well my first week at JWU flew by! It was a good productive week and I learned a lot. The picture above is a tray of diplomatic cups made from red wine poached pears, pastry cream, chocolate butterflies and whipped Chantilly roses. The butterflies were the most challenging part, they kept breaking apart.

First week back to school.

Sorry that I haven’t been actively posting on this blog.

The North Miami Style

For those of you that did not know, North Miami students are required to attend all non lab classes in Professional Dress. While most of us here love the dress code policy, there are some who would rather have the new college standard of sweats and a t-shirt.

The way I see it is that in our future jobs we will most likely be required to dress professionally, and we’re building our style and wardrobe for the future. I love the opportunity to dress up and look presentable each day.

Not only that, but often times local businesses and important companies are on campus looking for recruits and interns. Now would you rather them see you in PJ’s or a suit and tie?

Richie: First day back!

Today was the first day back for the year! I don’t know about you guys but getting up for an 8 am class isn’t what I was used to over the summer. This is gonna take a while to get adjusted to but I’m looking forward to a fun year! I started today with Menu Planning and Cost Control with Chef Roche and I look forward to learning in that class, and then I had Nutrition which is good because I need to eat healthier and resist all the delicious temptations that are out there, especially for a culinary student. Hope everyone else had a good first day.

Hello all, my name is Brittany Rader. I am a transfer student from Indiana and will be attending the Johnson & Wales University Charlotte campus for the next year. I am majoring in the Baking & Pastry Program.

Leaving Jersey at 8:45 to get to Prov! Now let’s see how long it takes to get there with labor day weekend traffic :/ I hope everyone gets up to school and settled in safely!
